Puppet Bootstrap

The Puppet Bootstrap requires 5 on site days to deliver.  The Puppet bootstrap engagement will provide your personnel, the necessary knowledge required to replicate future bootstrap/provisioning of new machines. The objective of the Puppet Bootstrap is to leave the customer with a fully functional Puppet system.   

Scope:

1.  Discovery calls – 3 hours [Prior to engagement]
2.  Define global Puppet deployment architecture for customer
3.  Review scalability & Puppet infrastructure maintenance
4.  Overview of certificate management
5.  Install puppet-master (server) on a few of servers
6.  Install puppet-client on a set of clients
7. Automate puppet-client install as part of the imaging process
8. Assist in creating manifest configuration files – based on specs provided
9. Assist in creating Puppet configuration files – based on specs provided
10. Assist in creating scripts to push configuration files to clients upon demand
11. Specify configuration to prevent shutdown of Puppet service on client –review systems security settings to prevent shutdown of Puppet service on client
12. Setup Puppet client to push required client logs (e.g. ClamAV, Firewall) to Syslog servers – develop Puppet manifest to configure syslog  such as ClamAV, Firewall
13. Setup Puppet server and clients for continual updates from local repository
14. Demonstrate Puppet report capabilities associated with the following:

Process:
A call will be scheduled with the appointed customer personnel and the lead Puppet Labs Professional Services engineer to review the customer’s current implementation, environment, goals, etc. Puppet Labs will request that the customer provide access to the necessary systems, locations, personnel, etc.  The customer must provide at least one main point of contact that will be available during the duration of the engagement.

Deliverables:  

A report will be generated that includes recommended modifications and enhancements to customer’s current Puppet implementation.  The report will only incorporate all completed items that were outlined in the scope.

Time frame and process: This engagement will be completed on site with a total of 5 business days dedicated to completing the top objectives as outlined in the scope.
